Design
The OPPO A96 is lookin’ pretty nice and comin’ at a great price, and it’s presented in two color choices: Sunset Blue and Starry Black. The model I’m reviewing for ya is the Starry Black version. It looks very suave, and it feels cozy when you hold it in your hand. And according to OPPO, the back of the device is shielded from scratches – which would be real beneficial if you ain’t intendin’ on takin’ advantage of any kind o’ case protection.
The OPPO A96 has an impressive 6.59″ Punch-Hole display with 2412 x 1080 resolution (FHD+), 401PPI, and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate for optimal user experience when scrolling social media apps or interacting with the phone overall.
Performance
This device runs on an ultra-fast 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor and is equipped with a Qualcomm Adrenoâ„¢ GPU 610, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. You can expect to experience quick loading times for everyday tasks like scrolling through your news feed on Google Chrome or browsing Instagram posts without any lags.
The OPPO A96 makes switching between apps or opening them an enjoyable experience. This is a testament to the fact that even with a budget-friendly phone, you can have an excellent daily experience for web browsing, social media posts and more. That being said, if you are planning on using your phone heavily for things such as long video editing or high-powered app usage – tasks which would prove too large for most phones below Ksh. 50,000 – then this phone will be unable to keep up. The power button on the phone can be used to unlock it quickly and seamlessly with either a sensor or facial recognition.
Cameras
Reviewing the OPPO A96’s camera, it has a 50MP rear main camera, 2MP bokeh camera, and a 16MP selfie camera (front). However, there is no wide angle or optical zoom feature. If you’re looking to purchase this model and want to see if the camera would meet your needs, here’s a section dedicated to that purpose. With Portrait mode, OPPO’s AI-powered enhancer, as well as Panorama and Timelapse capabilities, you can easily get great photos with your phone. The photos taken by the Oppo A96 are decent, especially if there’s sufficient lighting or you take your shots outdoors.
Other features
The OPPO A96 was designed for day-to-day use, featuring a long battery life and the incredible 33W SUPERVOOC charging technology. Additionally, its punch-hole display refreshes at 90Hz, ensuring smooth visuals, while also supporting dual unlocking methods. The camera is decent but not great if you frequently take photos outside or in well-lit locations; it tends to have trouble capturing fast-moving subjects as if it has a slow shutter speed. Also, neither a telephoto lens for optical zoom nor a wide-angle lens is available.
